Day 10: The Mighty Miss
Day 10: The Mighty Miss
Day 10: The Mighty Miss
First full day on the Mississippi! Left Alton Marina with The Bavaria, and a Grand Banks 42. First lock was the Mel Price, relatively uneventful. Next up was the Chain of Rocks, which if you saw in the news a Hunter Sailboat lost a fight with last October when they missed the turn to the lock. (There is a very large sign and it’s marked well on the chart, pic from the news last year)
After that we were into the downtown St. Louis area. It really makes you appreciate the amazing Lakefront we have in Chicago. St. Louis is mostly industrial on the riverfront.
From there we had a strong current in our favor, I was averaging almost 8 knots.
Tied up at the last marina for 200+ miles tonight. Hoppies is a legend amongst loopers. It’s a few barges strung together about 20 miles south of the arch, but it’s the last place to stop for Gas/Diesel till Paducah 208 miles away. So we filled the diesel tank and the dinghy as we will need to for our daily shore excursions for the pups.
We have some heavy weather coming tomorrow night, luckily there is a lock wall we can tie up to to weather the storm.
Cheers from the mighty miss!
