Day 11: A short windy hop to Kaskaskia Lock

Left Hoppies by 9am, found out last minute that they DID have water, so I was able to top off my water tanks for the first time since Chicago. The previous marinas had already shut their water off for the season.

It was W-I-N-D-Y today. Felt like 20-25 right on the nose the whole day. But we did have a nice current helping us move along for a fast SOG of 7 knots. (Fast for me anyways)

With some heavy weather in the forecast for tonight we are all tied up safe and sound at a lock on an off shoot of the Mississippi called the Kaskaskia River. There is no power but its nice and protected.

We had so much wind today we spent most of it motoring into whitecaps and waves! Kind of crazy for a river, but not uncomfortable.

Taking advantage of the short day to get some work done I haven’t done much in the last 11 days since I’m usually too tired at the end of the day to open my laptop longer than it takes to write these updates.

Tomorrow we head to an anchorage near Cape Girardeau, then we head to Cairo, IL where the Ohio River meets the Mississippi. Hoping for a Monday evening arrival in Paducah, KY.

Have a great friday! It’s going to be a quiet one here, not much nightlife on a lock wall it turns out.
