Day 28: The Metropolis of Demopolis
Day 28: The Metropolis of Demopolis!
Day 28: The Metropolis of Demopolis!
Got up and washed all the mud off the boat from last nights messy dinghy adventure back from land. Who doesn’t love a good morning bucket deck wash and scrub in 27 degrees 🤣
No locks today so we got up to speed and cruised along for 41+ nautical miles. Was a pleasant day not much to report. Though we did pass the White Cliff of Epes, which were supposedly formed around the same time as the White Cliffs of Dover.
Tied up in Kingfisher Marina here in Demopolis, a well appointed facility, topped up on diesel. Since Columbus 3 days ago we burned a whopping 11 miles. Based on my excel sheet we seem to be holding steady at .65 gal/hr and about 8.5mpg. Not bad. This 3 cylinder Yanmar diesel just keeps ticking. Can’t beat a Yanmar, this engine and it’s low hours was one of the main reasons I bought this boat they are just so damn simple, reliable, and fuel efficient.
Did some laundry, then was able to take the courtesy car to town for some dinner and provisions. I forget how spoiled we are in Chicago with EXCELLENT and authentic Mexican food on nearly every corner. I’ve tried a few along the way and they all have disappointed.
Tomorrow we have a long slough to Bashi Creek 71 miles away. Going to be a early early start for us, one lock to go through right outside the marina.
For now we are snuggled up with clean laundry, electric heat, and a cold Budwiser (Cheers Arv, Joe, Steve, & T!).
