Day 34: Sails go up, smiles come out…
Left Mobile bright and early with no plan for a destination. I provisioned enough and had enough fuel to make it straight to Tampa, a 3 day sail. If I didn’t have dogs on board I’d do just that, but alas, I didn’t feel like subjecting the 4 legged crew members to 72 hours off shore in the gulf.
We had a FANTASTIC sail through Mobile Bay. Sun was out, it was warm. Good breeze, calm seas. Took the opportunity to tune the rig underway. Best day on the water in 33 days.
Since we weren’t going to make the hop to Sarasota, we sailed into the Gulf ICW and made our way to Pensacola. Entering Florida we have made our way into the 7th state of our journey. While searching for a marina I saw an old familiar bar/marina on my chart. Peg Leg Pete’s in Pensacola Beach. I had been to this establishment in my former life with Monster Jam, it was a favorite amongst staff. It was fun to think back on the all the adventures we had as we crisscrossed the globe bringing Grave Digger and the like to 50,000 screaming fans each night. By coincidence I had been on the phone with my long term partner in crime from those days Amanda. She’s one of those people you can spend 2 hours with on the phone with and enjoy every second of it.
It looks like we won’t have good weather for a crossing for a few days, so on the ICW we will stay till we get the right weather window to cross the gulf.
