Day 56: Savor the good days!

A nice day here in Sarasota. Apparently I’m the only one in the entire metro area who considered the temps to be warm enough for shorts, no less then 4 people asked me how I was wearing shorts in “this cold” on my way to Starbucks. For reference it was 65 degrees…

Had a really productive day with work, feels good to be making positive progress for these events in 2023 after a rough 2022. Being self employed it makes the good days that much better (and that bad days that much worse). Today was a good day.

Headed to my new hangout around noon, the beach bar O’Learys right by the anchorage. Put in a few more hours of work and bumped into a friend from Saugatuck for the second time in two days (Hi Tim!)

The low point of the day was tearing my carb apart for the second time in a week to find some of the new gaskets I installed have already failed. God damn it Amazon. I normally don’t cheap out on mechanical parts but all my preferred suppliers were sold out of the kit I wanted. Thanks Obama 🙄 (that’s a joke for those of you who don’t know me)

After re assembling my now slightly less leaky carb I got 3 pieces of great news all at once.

  1. A total shot in the dark potential title sponsor for all of my 2023 events got back to me within an hour of my inquiry and already set up a meeting before the holiday… that’s a big win

  2. A job I had been interested in, but didn’t think I had much of a chance of (in international coral reef restoration) got back to me wanting to setup a call for after the holiday. When I submitted my initial application I got a kickback saying the application window had already closed, but apparently I was still included! So that’s fun.

  3. A friend of mine called to ask if he could come spend a few days sailing with me this week and next, of course my answer was YES! Very excited to have a friend onboard for a week and for Christmas as we sail to the keys! See ya Thursday Kellen!

I know my friends and family back home are bracing for a doozy of a winter storm, I hope everyone is safe and it doesn’t impact Christmas plans too much. But if you have any extra ice send it my way we will need it for our painkillers and rum runners in the keys 😎

Cheers!
