Well, our time is officially coming to an end here in the wonderful Exumas…
It has been fantastic (almost) 2 months here in paradise, we have met some great new friends, had some epic adventures, tons of snorkeling and diving, explored empty islands, met some wonderful locals, and made plenty of memories.
I just said goodbye to our last guests for the season this AM. We had a great time working our way from Staniel Cay to Georgetown. Saw the swimming pigs, snorkeled the Thunderball grotto, shared some excellent meals, and got to share the cruising life with them.
So today I’m cleaning up the boat, reorganizing, and scrubbing the bottom as we prepare to head back to Florida, across the Gulfstream, and up the Okeechobee to Indiantown Marina where Gypsy will spend her summer months.
She’s been in the water for 1 full year and has performed flawlessly. I’m very pleased with how liveable she has been for me, the dogs, and even a few visitors during our journey. The systems on board have all worked great, and it seems my simple but through preventative maintenance has paid off. The list of upgrades for the next cruising season is pretty small at the moment…
Saturday looks like we will make the 50nm jump from Georgetown to Staniel, there we will fill up water and fuel.
Sunday we will depart Staniel and head 80nm to the western tip of Nassau where there is a nice anchorage to catch some rest.
Monday we jump from Nassau to either Bimini (112nm) or Freeport (109nm). Will depend on the weather.
Once we are in our final Bahamian port we will wait for an appropriate weather window. From there we hop across the gulfstream to West Palm Beach (75nm).
Once in Florida, we will work our way up the coast or ICW to Stuart where we turn west and head inland on the Okeechobee waterway to Indiantown.
Our haulout is scheduled for April 27, but I want to get there as early as possible to prep the boat for summer storage. Then… back to Chicago!
It’s been an adventure of a lifetime, and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed sharing it with all of you. I hope Gypsy and I get the chance to repeat it next winter!
